The Minor Midgets advanced to the Alliance Semi finals on the strength of Taylor Moir’s 3 goal performance. The Lakers swept the Windsor Spitfires 3 games to none by defeating the Spits 3 – 1 in game 3.

The Minor Atoms took their turn travelling over to Rochester to have a great tournament as well as great times off the ice!!!

Major Atom - Major Atom Lakers gold quarter-finalist at Rochester Invitational

The Major Atom Lakers had a strong showing at the 2012 Rochester'01 Invitational Hockey Tournament in Rochester NY last weekend (Jan. 27-29, 2012). In the preliminary round, the Lakers easily defeated the North Jersey Avalanche 4-1 and the Buffalo Saints 5-0 before tying the Ottawa Sting 1-1 in a hard fought game. This seeded the Lakers 8th out of 32 teams, just enough to be in the top 8 Gold Division. In the quarter-final match against the Mississauga Reps, the 5th best team in Ontario, the Lakers started slowly and found themselves down by a couple of goals early before settling down & playing with the Reps before falling 5-1.

Garrett James, a member of the Huron Perth Lakers Minor Midget team, recently returned with an Olympic bronze medal from the first Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria with a 7-5 victory over U.S.A. Over 1000 athletes represented 70 countries at the Games including a variety of sports, including skiing (Nordic, alpine, cross-country ski-cross), biathlon, curling, speed skating, figure skating, luge, bobsled and ice hockey.

Minor Midget - Lakers Open Playoffs Against Windsor

The Huron Perth Minor Midgets opened the playoffs on the weekend against the Windsor Jr. Spitfires. The Lakers had not played for almost three weeks after having a bye in the first round. Windsor eliminated the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs to advance against the Lakers.
