Minor Atom Lakers Win Pair of Games This Past Weekend.
This past Saturday saw the Minor Atom Lakers travel to Hamilton to face off against the Huskies. The Lakers had revenge on their minds as the Huskies had beat them only two weeks earlier.

The Lakers started off strong as Harmer picked up a loose puck behind the net and tucked it in for a 1-0 lead. Assists on the goal went to Visneskie and Medhurst.

The Huskies tied it up a short time later and sent the game into the second tied at one. In the middle frame the Lakers took control as Harmer scored two more finishing off the natural hat trick with a beauty bar down shot after receiving a beauty saucer pass from Visneskie. Coward picked up the lone assist on Harmer's second goal.

In the third the Lakers put the game to bed with two more goals when Hodge took a pass from Nicholson in the neutral zone broke wide around the Husky defence and fired a hard shot on net that found its way passed the netminder. A short time later Jewitt scored from the slot after Fraser and Houben worked hard behind the net and moved the puck to Jewitt. Final score was 5-1 in favour of the Lakers but would of been much closer without some timely and highlight reel saves by Boresma who picked up the win.

On Sunday the Lakers continued their hot play as they hosted the 99ers from Brantford and came away with a 7-1 win.

From the drop of the puck the Lakers dominated. They scored 12 seconds into the first period when Nicholson dumped the puck in deep where Jewitt picked it up and slid the puck into the slot to Houben who fired a one timer into the back of the net. They followed this up with four second period goals taking a 5-1 lead into the third. Goal scorers in the second were Houben with his second from Jewitt and Fraser. Then this line continued their dominance as Fraser scored a beauty  from Houben and Jewitt and a short time later Jewitt scored after putting on a stick handling clinic in tight after Coward found him alone in the slot. Second assist on the Jewitt goal went to Houben. Harmer also got on the scoresheet in the second after taking a pass from Barch and burying into the back of the net.

In the third the Lakers scored two more when Harmer scored an unassisted beauty and Olmstead picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, beat the 99er defenceman and went in all alone firing a low shot into the net for a 7-1 win. Assist on the Olmstead goal went to Nicholson. Bree was solid in the pipes turning the 99er offence away at every opportunity.

The Minor Atom Lakers showed that when they move the puck, play solid defensively and get great goaltending they can compete with any team in the league. The Lakers have two more games this coming weekend as they host Elgin-Middlesex in Friday and travel to Cambridge to face off against the Hawks on Sunday.
