Minor Atom Lakers Move Into Second After Pair of Weekend Games
This past weekend the Minor Atom Lakers hosted the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs in Stratford on Friday night.

The Lakers came out flying in the first and caught the Chiefs on their heels. Jewitt took a pass from Fraser and buried a quick wrister from the slot for a 1-0 lead and Boersma made some great saves sending the 1-0 lead into the second period.

However early in the second period the Lakers got into some penalty trouble and the Chiefs took full advantage scoring four goals in under three minutes for a 4-1 lead. The Lakers coaching staff settled the kids down and the players got back to the basics and played a very strong rest of the period sending the game into the third still 4-1.

Early in the third the Lakers cut the Chiefs lead to two on the power play when Harmer and Kipfer played a little give and go and Harmer slid a low shot into the Chiefs net. It was too little too late though as the Chiefs scored two late period goals for a 6-2 win.

On Sunday the Minor Atom Lakers traveled to Cambridge to face off against their division rivals. The game was back and forth for and was tied at two heading to the third. The Lakers first two goals were scored by Harmer and Jewitt with assists going to Marshall, Kipfer, Visneskie and Hodge.

Early in the third the Hawks scored  two quick goals to take a 4-2 lead however the Lakers would not quit knowing they needed the points to move up in the standings. In a matter of 45 seconds the game was tied 4-4 when Jewitt scored a beauty from Visneskie and Barch and Harmer followed that up with another goal with the helpers going to Marshall and Jewitt.

The last few minutes was a back and forth battle but neither team could find the back of the net and the game ended in a 4-4 tie. Next Lakers action is this coming weekend when they host the 99ers in Milverton on Saturday and travel to London on Sunday. Good Luck Lakers.
