Minor Atom Lakers Go 1 For 3 Over Weekend.
This past weekend the Lakers played host to three home games against Kitchener, Sun County and Lambton.

On Friday against the Rangers the Lakers came out slow against their division rivals going down early and trailed 3-1 after the first period. The lone goal in the first scored by Harmer with an assist from Kipfer. In the second the teams traded goals and the Rangers took a 5-3 lead heading to the third. The second period goals were scored by Jewitt from Houben and Harmer set up by Visneskie.

In the third the real Lakers team came to play and dominated the period scoring three more goals cutting the Rangers lead to 7-6 with two minutes remaining. These goals were scored by Harmer with two and Houben with one. Visneskie picked up the lone assist on Harmer's first goal of the period. The last two minutes say the Lakers dominate the play keeping the puck in the Rangers end the entire time and firing shots from all angles. But it wasn't meant to be and the Lakers lost 7-6.

On Saturday the Lakers hosted the Sun County Panthers in what turned out to be a wild shoot out. The Lakers came out on top with a 10-8 victory. Goals were scored by Harmer with four, Jewitt with three, Fraser with two and Visneskie with a single. Assists went to Coward with three, Harmer with two, Jewitt with two, Medhurst with two and singles to Olmstead, Fraser, Coyne, Nicholson, Hodge and Houben.

On Sunday the Lakers hosted Lambton who were in second place in the West Division. The Lakers opened the scoring shorthanded when Harmer stripped the Lambton defenceman of the puck and went in all alone burying a shot to the back of the net. The Sting scored two first period goals after some beauty saves by Bree for a 2-1 lead.

In the second these two teams continued to battle back and forth as Lambton took a 5-4 lead heading to the final period. Second period goals by the Lakers were scored by Harmer with two for the hat trick and Jewitt with one. Assists on these goals went to Hodge, Coyne, Jewitt and Harmer.

The third was entertaining as these two teams continued to play hard, rush the puck and make some incredible passes. The Lakers tied the game early in the third when Jewitt banged in a rebound. Assists on the goal went to Fraser and Nicholson. However with just six minutes left the Sting scored for a 6-5 win.

These games were the Lakers last before Christmas. And halfway through the season it's incredible to see how far these kids have come. From not knowing one another to a team that works together, has fun with one another and is learning a ton.

Merry Christmas to all of the players and parents and a special seasons greetings to all the coaches, trainers and managers who volunteer all of their time. Have a safe holiday!!!
