Kitchener Defeats Minor Atoms in Overtime in Game 5
 

After playing the worst game of the year in game 1 vs Kitchener, the Lakers worked hard to get back in the series, but were defeated in 5 games, with three of the games going into overtime. In game 1 it was all Kitchener as they defeated the Lakers 4 – 0.



 

Game 2 the Lakers found themselves down 2 – 0 early in the game until Nathan Smith put the Lakers on the score board with the assist going to Haydn Favacho. From there on it was a good game with Kenny Huether scoring the next Laker goal set-up by Kiernyn Campbell. Kitchener than pulled back out in front 4 – 2 before Cullen Mercer scored to make it 4 – 3. With goalie Ben Larder on the bench in the last minute of play Kenny Huether scored on the rebound shot from Eric MacPhee. Kitchener scored mid way through the overtime period giving them the win.

Game 3 back in Stratford’s Dufferin arena was the best game the Lakers played in the series winning 5 – 0. The goal scores were Cullen Mercer with 2, and singles going to Wyatt Ducharme, Kiernyn Campbell and Evan Chaffe. Assits were collected by Haydn Favacho, Zach Jocabs, Mykal Hodges, Evan Chaffe and Kenny Huether with two. Brandan Willis, Drew Mckee, Lucas Spence and Dylan Nafziger had a great defensive game. Riley O’Keefe had the shut-out in goal for the Lakers.

Game 4 in Kitchener the Lakers once again found themselves down by 2 goals after the first period. Kiernyn Campbell cut Kitchener’s led in half on a power play goal from Evan Chaffe and Cullen Mercer. Cullen Mercer than tied the game up with assists going to Kiernyn Campbell and Mykal Hodges. The game remained tied through overtime forcing a game 5 in Goderich.

Game 5 was a must win game for the Lakers to stay alive in the series. Kitchener went up 1 – 0 in the first. Kenny Huether tied the game in the second with assists going to Kiernyn Campbell and Evan Chaffe. Both teams were playing their best game of the series. Evan Chaffe put the Lakers ahead with less than 3 minutes left in the game before Kitchener once again tied the game in the last minute, sending it to overtime. Midway through the 5 minute overtime Kitchener scored to give them the win and the series. Kitchener now moves on to play London and the Lakers will play Waterloo in the best of 5 series.
