Minor Bantams headed to League Semi-Final
After dropping Game 1 of their Quarter Final Playdown Series to the Cambridge Hawks, the Huron Perth Lakers 'AAA' Minor Bantams reeled off 3 straight wins to take the Best of 5 Series 3 games to 1. With two dominating performances in Games 2 & 3, the Lakers were looking to complete the series with a win in Cambridge on Sunday night. Being off their skates for 5 days due to the bad weather last week slowed the process as the Hawks scored the opening goal of the game to go up 1-0.

The Lakers found their stride in the 2nd period scoring 3 unanswered goals to take a commanding 3-1 lead. Derek Cowing scored 1st with a nice individual effort in close. Battling at the side of the crease, Cowing outworked & overpowered the Hawks defense, snapping a shot into the top of the net to even the score. A few minutes later, Garret Meurs worked the puck down low & feathered a pass to David Dalby in the slot. Making no mistake with the gift, Dalby rifled the puck over the shoulder of the Hawks goaltender for the 2-1 lead. Before the end of the period, Mac Nichol picked up a loose puck just inside his blue line & carried it deep into the Cambridge zone. With Dylan Lazarus streaking hard to the net, Nichol timed his pass perfectly allowing Lazarus to redirect the puck into the mesh to put the Lakers up by 2. Taking the lead into the 3rd, the Lakers put an emphasis on their defensive game and shut down Cambridge to skate away with a 3-1 victory & the Series win.

The Lakers will now face the London Jr Knights in the Semi-Finals after London took their Quarter Final Series 3 game to 1 over the Sun County Panthers. Brantford awaits the winner between Elgin Middlesex & Lambton in the other Semi-Final.
