Laker Major Bantams Clinch 1st Place
The Huron-Perth Laker AAA Major Bantam hockey club clinched 1st place in the Eastern Division of the Alliance League with a decisive 4-1 win over the Kitchener Jr. Rangers in Brussels on their last regular season game of the year. The victory capped off an undefeated streak of 17 games including 10 wins & 3 ties over their last 13 league games, as well as gaining a win & 3 ties in the recent Toronto Marlie Holiday Classic tournament. The team finished the regular season with a 17-5-10 record, complemented with a 10-4-4 tournament record. Huron-Perth captain Tyler Bryson commended his teammates on their amazing run: 'We pride ourselves on being the hardest working team in the league and very rarely get outworked by the opposition. There are teams out there that have more individual talent than we have but we have proven over the last 17 games that our work ethic is what will bring this team the success that we are seeing. We must now carry this same level of play into our playoffs.' Coach Jason Baier also sent the same message to his hard-working team: 'We must work hard and play disciplined hockey if we want to continue to achieve success. When these boys give 100% effort and stick to our systems, we truly can compete with any team in North America. I am very proud of the streak that this highly dedicated & talented group of boys has put together, however, this is just the 1st step towards our team goal of winning the Alliance Championship.'
