Another 4 – 2 Loss for the PeeWees
The HPL PeeWees continued with their competitive play, this time against the East Division leading Cambridge Hawks, however they came out on the losing end of another 4-2 battle.

While continuing to remain close in most games, the HPL PeeWees are still finding it difficult to go the extra step of finishing a team off in a close game. This trait was yet again evident when they played the East Division leading Cambridge Hawks last week in Galt. The game was close throughout, with play fairly evenly balanced. The game remained scoreless until the 5-minute mark of the 1st period when Cambridge took a 1-0 lead off a low, hard shot from the face-off circle. The Lakers tied the game up before the end of the period off the rush when Greg Williams’ pass from the corner hit a Cambridge player and bounced in the net.  Jayden Landry picked up the assist.

Cambridge then picked up two late 2nd period goals and appeared headed to the 3rd with a commanding 3-1 lead. Fortunately, the line of Conner JohnsonP.J. Conlon and Travis Bender had other ideas when strong down low work by Bender released a puck to Johnson just to the left of the net.  He then sent a beautiful pass in front to Conlon who made no mistake bringing the Lakers to within 1.

The 3rd period was a strong defensive period for both teams, with neither mustering more than 5 shots.  Regretfully for the Lakers, they could not tie the game and ended up surrendering an empty net goal with under a minute to play.

The team will get a chance for revenge when they host the Hawks on December 2nd in St. Marys.  They will also host the Waterloo Wolves in Wingham on December 1st as they start a busy December.
