Chiefs end Major Bantam Lakers' streak
On Saturday night, the Festival Inn Major Bantam Lakers extended their unbeaten streak to 6 games after defeating the Waterloo Wolves 6-5 in Alliance Hockey AAA action.

The Lakers jumped out to an early start & built a 2 goal lead just 5 minutes into the game after a pair of goals from Calvin Penney. But the lead slipped away just as fast with Waterloo taking a 3-2 lead early in the 2nd period. Garrett Meurs tied the game before Mac Nichol & Nathan Gaunt gave the Lakers a 2 goal lead going into the final period. After the Wolves got back to within one yet again, Brad McClure put the Lakers up 6-4 heading into the dying minutes of the game. Waterloo managed to make things interesting by scoring late to make it 6-5 & kept the pressure on until the final buzzer to allow the Lakers to escape with 2 points. David DalbyDerek CowingDylan Lazarus had 2 assists each with Austin Spencer, McClure & Nichol also earning assists.

Hoping for a better team defensive effort on Sunday, the Lakers played host to the League leading Elgin Middlesex Chiefs. On the opening shift of the game, Garrett Meurs scored for the Lakers, sliding the puck home to finish a nice passing play with George Armstrong & Gaunt earning assists. The Chiefs tied the game before the end of the 1st period & a scoreless middle frame set the stage for an exciting 3rd period. With both teams playing exceptional defensive hockey, it was clear to see the next goal was going to be the winner. A scramble in the Lakers crease area led to a goal to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead. Unable to answer, the Lakers saw their 6 game unbeaten streak snapped with the 2-1 loss but still find themselves sitting 2 points out of top spot in the East behind Brantford.
