'92 Minor Midget Lakers Win Markham Tournament
The Huron-Perth Lakers AAA Minor Midget hockey team travelled to Markham over the Thanksgiving weekend to play in the Markham Majors Fall Classic Hockey Tournament and came home with the Championship trophy & rings for all the players.

The Lakers played their first game on Friday against the Sudbury Jr. Wolves and dominated the game outshooting the Wolves 30 to 12 but came up against a hot Sudbury goaltender and settled for a 1-1 tie. The lone Huron-Perth goal was scored by Dean Klomp (St. Mary's) assisted by Brendan Childerley (Stratford) & Braden Connolly (Seaforth).  Baird Kelly (Stratford) was the Huron-Perth goalie.  Joel Bowman (Listowel) played a strong game on defence and was awarded the player of the game.
 
The second game of the day was against the host Markham Majors team and the Lakers came out flat losing by a score of 3-1.  The Lakers lone goal was scored by Tyler Durst (Goderich) assisted by Haden Campbell (Stratford) & Dean KlompGreg Dodds (Wingham) protected the crease for the Lakers.  Sean Consitt (Hensall) earned the player of the game award with a strong defensive effort.
 
On Saturday morning, the Lakers finally found their game against the Upper Canada (Ottawa) Cyclones and peppered the Cyclone goalie with 42 shots scoring 6 goals to earn a 6-1 win over the Cyclones.  Andrew Barton (Stratford) opened the scoring assisted by Sean Consitt (Hensall) & Brandon Chaffe (Wingham).  Haden Campbell scored a power-play goal assisted by Brendan Childerley & Joel Bowman.  The 3rd goal was a shorthanded effort by Sean Consitt assisted by Patrick McLellan (Mitchell).  Campbell scored his 2nd goal of the game assisted by ConsittDean Klomp continued the scoring assisted by Campbell & Tyler Bryson (Exeter).  Braden Connolly finished off the scoring with assists going to Childerley & BartonBaird Kelly played goal for the Lakers with Haden Campbell awarded the player of the game award for his 2 goal effort.
 
The next game of the tournament was played against the Canton Crush and the Lakers continued their strong play with a 39 shot effort resulting in a 7-2 victory over the Crush.  Haden Campbell scored a hat-trick in this game with Dean Klomp scoring 2 goals.  Reid Oliver (Stratford) and Brendan Childerley scored the other 2 Lakers goals.  Assists were earned by Childerley, Bryson (2), Darren Young (Embro) (3), Klomp (2), Consitt, Barton, Connolly (2), & CampbellGreg Dodds & Baird Kelly shared the goaltending duties and Reid Oliver earned the player of the game award.
 
The Championship game was played on Sunday afternoon with a rematch against the undefeated host team Markham Majors. The Lakers earned the Championship trophy with a hard-fought 5-2 win over the Majors.  Reid Oliver opened the scoring assisted by Young & McLellanOliver scored his 2nd goal of the game, once again assisted by Patrick McLellanBraden Connolly scored the winning goal of the game & his 2nd goal of the tournament assisted by Consitt & BartonHaden Campbell scored the last 2 goals of the game with assists going to Klomp (2), Durst, & YoungBaird Kelly held the Lakers in the game with several outstanding saves and earned the player of the game award.
 
The Lakers next regular season games are in Goderich on Saturday, Oct 13 against the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs and on Sunday, Oct 14 against the Hamilton Reps.
