Minor Midgets Compete in Silver Stick Tournament
The Huron-Perth Lakers AAA Minor Midget hockey club travelled to Whitby this past weekend to compete in the Gloria Rints Memorial International Silver Stick Hockey Tournament. This tournament invites the top 20 Minor Midget teams in North America together to compete for the International Silver Stick championship.  

The Lakers played their first game on November 22/07 against the Markham Majors in a rematch with the team that the Lakers had beaten in the finals of the Markham tournament back in October. The teams battled hard and played to a 2-2 tie in an evenly matched game. Huron-Perth scorers:  Haden Campbell (Stratford), assisted by Darren Young (Embro), Reid Oliver (Stratford), assisted by Andrew Barton (Stratford) & Tyler Bryson (Exeter), Huron-Perth goalie:  Shawn Gethke (Goderich).

The next game was on November 23/07 against the #2 ranked team in North America, the Toronto Jr. Canadiens.  The Lakers played hard against a physically stronger Canadien team falling behind 2-0 after the 1st period. The Lakers fought back in the 2nd period to tie the game before falling behind 3-2 at the end of the second period. The 3rd period was a penalty filled period which saw the Canadiens score 3 powerplay goals on a tired Lakers team resulting in a 6-2 loss for the Lakers. Huron-Perth scorers:  Darren Young, assisted by Sean Consitt (Hensall) & Tyler Bryson (Exeter),  Darren Young, assisted by Brendan Childerley (Stratford) & Braden Connolly (Seaforth). Huron-Perth goalie:  Baird Kelly (Stratford).

The 3rd game of the tournament was on November 24/07 against the Peterborough Jr. Petes.  The Lakers outplayed the Peterborough team throughout the game and won the game 3-1. Huron-Perth scorers:  Darren Young, assisted by Connor Devereaux (Seaforth), Darren Young, assisted by Sean Consitt, Reid Oliver, assisted by Tyler Bryson.  Huron Perth Goalie, Shawn Gethke.  The Lakers did not advance to the next round of the tournament but had a very respectable showing and proved that they are able to compete against the top teams from the larger centres.
