2 – 0 Weekend for HPL Minor Pee Wees
The Huron-Perth Minor Pee Wees went 2 – 0 on the weekend, with a 2–1 win over Kitchener Jr. Rangers on Lakers Day in Goderich MRC and a 5–3 win over Windsor the following day at the MRC once again.

On Lakers Day, the HPL Minor Pee Wees invited Kitchener for the 2nd straight year for the annual Lakers Day game. The “97’s” have always had close exciting games with Kitchener over the past 2 years so it would be only fitting to select them as their opponent for the special day. The HPL Minor Pee Wee’s have had a hard time putting a total team effort together this year for the games, but after Coach Mike put the team through 2 great practices in the week before Lakers Day, the players did what they needed to do, to bring a total team effort to the rink. The HPL Minor Pee Wees started the game off strong forcing the play and throwing some big hits getting them into the game early. At the 10 minute mark of the 1st period a Lakers defenseman pinched in at the Kitchener blue line and intercepted a pass, then fed the puck to a Lakers forward as he drove a hard slap shot into the top corner of the net, beating the Kitchener goalie cleanly. From then on it was a great two way game with great scoring chances at both ends until the 10 minute mark of the 3rd period when Kitchener was able to get one past the Lakers goalie. After that point the Lakers were able to elevate their game and played most of the final 5 minutes in the Kitchener end and, just when it looked like the game was going to end in a tie, the Lakers were able to convert a great forchecking play into a goal with 1.7 seconds left on the clock giving the HPL Minor Pee Wees a 2–1 win on Lakers Day. The “97” group has a record of 3–0 on the annual Lakers Day.

After a good night's sleep, the HPL Minor Pee Wees were back at the MRC rink, a rink which seems to bring out the best in this team. Their opponent for the Sunday game would be the much improved Windsor Jr. Spitfires. Once again the Lakers came out flying with 5 or 6 good scoring chances in the 1st 5 minutes of the game and finally at the 9 minute mark scored a power play goal. Shortly after, the Windsor team converted a power play into a goal to tie the game 1-1. Early in the 2nd period Windsor jumped out to 2–1 lead. Coach Mike came up with some new forward line combinations in hopes of creating some offence in the  penalty filled 2nd period, but it ended in a  3 – 3 tie. As the 3rd period started the Windsor team playing their 3rd game in two days on the road seem to start slowing down allowing the Lakers to add two 3rd period goals and win the game 5–3.

This was a great weekend for the HPL Minor Pee Wee team as they learned that they need everyone on the team to play to their best of their ability in order to win hockey games.

The HPL Minor Pee Wee team would like to thank their sponsors and their fans for their continuing support.
