Lakers Win Pair of Weekend Games
The Huron Perth Lakers AAA Major Peewees were looking to follow up their Burlington Tournament Finalist performance as they took to the ice for two Alliance league games.

Lakers 6 – Hamilton 1
On January 3rd, the Lakers took to the ice at Chedoke Arena in Hamilton to take on the Reps. Cole Thomas was given the start in net for the Lakers. The Lakers came out a little flat and allowed the Reps to play with them for the first seven minutes of the game. The team received a wake up call as Brody Tenpas fought to get the puck up the wing to Nathan Templeman who went flying in on goal. He head faked the goalie and slide the puck under his pads making the score 1-0. On the next shift, defenseman Frasier Lewis played a two on one perfectly with the help of Taylor Moir who was back checking hard. Seconds later, Gregory Swan was on the forecheck and pushed the puck up the wall to Roland McKeown. He went on the attack deking the goalie right and tucking the puck into the left side of the net putting the Lakers up by two.

The longer the game went on the more the Lakers skating took the game away from the Reps. At the nine minute marker of the 2nd period, Moir led a rush down the left side and put a perfect cross ice pass on the stick of Keigan Goetz who cut across the net and lifted a back handed shot in off the cross bar making the score 3-0. Seconds later, Thomas was called upon to make a good glove save to keep the Reps off the score board.

The start of the third period brought an extra smile to the Lakers as goalie Eric Ryan (was injured) took to the ice for his first game in over three weeks. Seconds into the third period, Alex Peters let fly a shot towards the Reps' net. Swan tipped the puck past the goalie upping the score to 4-0. Three minutes into the period, Templeman and McKeown out muscled the defenders and fed the puck to Derek Elliott. He caught the goalie off guard and wrapped the puck into the net for the Lakers' 5th goal. At the eight minute marker, Ryan was tested and responded with back to back saves. With six minutes to play, McKeown pushed up the boards to collect a loose puck and cut to the net where he fired a shot over the goalie's glove making the score 6-0. Late in the game, the Reps capitalised on a give away to make the final score 6-1.

Lakers 6 – Chatham 0
The Lakers hosted the Chatham-Kent Cyclones on Jan. 4th at Goderich MRC. The first few minutes of the game was played fairly evenly with both teams making some good passing plays. Goalie Eric Ryan made his first start in about three weeks coming off the injured reserve list. He made a smart play moving the puck up to a winger to start a rush on the power play part way through the period. Eight minutes into the game, Moir chipped the puck past a defender at his blue line which sprung Goetz away down the wing. He feathered a pass to Bayley Boyes who jammed in the first goal. With five minutes left in the period, Boyes and Goetz teamed up to push the puck to the front of the net. Moir took the puck from the mad scramble in front of the net and put the puck in making the score 2-0.

The Lakers dominated the second period with superior skating and puck movement. At the ten minute marker, Goetz and Moir passed the puck back and forth and eventually got it to Alex Peters. Peters loaded up his slap shot and blasted the third goal past the Cyclone goalie. Two minutes later, Tenpas chipped the puck along the wall to Templeman who raced down the right wing. Templeman put a pass right on Elliott’s stick who re-directed the puck into the net for a 4-0 lead. With three minutes to play in the second period, Moir got the puck to Ryan Stulp-Jacobson who fired a good shot on net. Goetz cruised through the crease and pulled back the puck from a goal mouth scramble lifting the fifth Lakers goal into the net.

Early in the third period the Lakers were killing a penalty and Ryan had to make a good glove save to keep the shut out bid alive. At the eleven minute marker, Swan and Peters worked together to set up McKenzie CarterCarter brought the puck out of the corner and ripped a high shot into the net making the final score 6-0. Eric Ryan was steady in net earning the shut out. The Lakers garnered full marks for both of their weekend wins.

Next up is a game on Jan. 6th in Goderich against the Waterloo Wolves.
