Midgets look strong in weekend play
After this past weekend, the level of optimism increased that much more with the Major Midget Lakers as they take 2 out of 3 games!

On Saturday afternoon, the Lakers travelled to Ayton to play their 1st exhibition game against the Grey Bruce Highlanders. The Lakers appeared to dominate all 3 periods but the score remained close the entire game & looked to be headed towards a tie. Just minutes before the curfew time had been reached, the Highlanders took a 4-3 lead. The Lakers fought valiantly & rang 2 last minute shots off the post before the Ref signalled time was up ending the comeback attempt.

On Saturday night, the Lakers hosted last season's East Division Champion - Waterloo Wolves. Another strong performance was turned in & the Lakers were rewarded with a 4-1 lead going into the late minutes of the game. A few lucky bounces allowed the Wolves to tighten the game up but that's as close as they came as the Lakers skated away with a 4-3 victory.

With the core of the team in the lineup (with the exception of Devereaux who once again got the call to play for the Jr B Cullitons) on Sunday afternoon, the Lakers took to the ice for the return match against the Highlanders. This was a completely different game from the day before. Knowing they control the outcome of every game & backed by amazing puck control, speed, solid communication & quick learning special teams, the Lakers dominated from start to finish enroute to an impressive 6-2 win.

Next up for the team will be the Burlington Eagles on Tuesday night in Stratford. The Eagles were the #1 ranked team in Ontario last season & the expectation of a fast paced, highly skilled game is extremely high!
