Klomp leads Alliance Midget 'AAA' League
After 7 Regular Season games the Lakers NA Engineering Major Midgets have a modest 2-5-0 record. But whats not shown in the record is the work ethic the team is putting forth.

Having 9 players that did not play 'AAA' last season only compliments the players in the strides taken to become a threat in the Alliance. Over the past week, it is very apparent to the Coaching Staff that the team chemistry and levels of on-ice communication have improved well past expectations. The speed & skill of the Alliance Midget 'AAA' League is phenomenal & a natural transition for the new players to adjust is expected.

To assist with this transition, the Coaches have placed some of the responsibility on Dean Klomp to help ensure his teammates understand what it takes to compete every shift & fight the urge to take the odd shift off. Dean has accepted & responded to the call to Lead by Example and at the end of play this past weekend, Dean is sitting on top of the Alliance Scoring Leaders with 16 points (6 goals; 10 assists) Sitting closely behind him in 2nd spot is another Laker- Darren Young with 13 points (5 goals; 8 assists)

Seeing 2 Lakers at the top of the Scoring Lead capped a solid weekend that saw the Lakers split a pair of games but only helped build the confidence of the team. Playing host to Cambridge on Saturday at the old Rotary Arena in Stratford, the Lakers fell victim to some defensive zone breakdowns & unlucky bounces losing 6-3. Spencer MacCormack opened the scoring for the Lakers with Young & Klomp assisting. Putting the pressure on, Young scored short handed with Klomp grabbing his 2nd assist of the afternoon. Tyler Durst potted his 1st of the season to round out the scoring on the Powerplay with Brett McGuinness & Klomp assisting.

Taking the lessons learned for the previous games, the team headed to Sarnia on Sunday afternoon to play the Lambton Jr Sting & were challenged to play a full 60 minutes without letting up. The Coaches were witness to an unbelievable effort & the players were rewarded with a 4-1 victory. Klomp recorded 4 points (1 goal; 3 assists), Young had 3 points (1 goal; 2 assists), MacCormack notched 2 goals while also excelling on the defensive side of the puck- sacrificing his body to block numerous shots to help preserve the win. The solid play was obviously contagious as Braden Connolly played his best game of the season & also sprawled to block shots while his aggressive forechecking had Lambton pinned deep for most of their Powerplay opportunities. Wade Pfeffer & Thomas Bedour also grabbed helpers. Brandon Garner was stellar in net to earn the win as the Lakers outshot Lambton 32-18.

Next up: The Lakers play host to the Kitchener Jr Rangers on Sunday October 12th at the MRC in Goderich @ 4pm. The Rangers squeeked by in the 1st game with a 3-1 win but the Lakers look to even the season series by continuing where they left off.
