Lakers Major Midgets March up Standings
With the expected re-opening of the Allman this weekend, the Huron Perth Lakers 'AAA' Major Midgets played their last game at the old Rotary on Saturday against the Lambton Jr. Sting.

The team has been on the rise of late & find themselves closing in on the top teams so continued hard work & team play is a must. After falling behind 1-0 after the 1st period, the Lakers, playing without 5 regular players in the lineup, picked up the pace. Patrick McLellan (Mitchell) evened the score early in the 2nd after being setup by Tyler Tolton (Mitchell|) & Connor Devereaux (Seaforth) but a miscue on the powerplay led to a shorthanded goal for Lambton to regain the lead.
Heading into the 3rd, Tolton drew the Lakers even once again, scoring on the powerplay with Spencer MacCormack (Waterloo) and Dean Klomp (St Marys) finding the game sheet with assists. Carrying a tie late into the game, the Lakers once again capitalized on the powerplay with Wade Pfeffer (Minto) notching the winner with Tolton & Klomp assisting. Garrett Meurs (Ripley) filled in admirably after coming in on loan from the Lakers Minor Midget team.

On Monday night, the Lakers travelled to Waterloo. With 3 players still out of the lineup, the team called up Nik McIver (Stratford) & Mitch McIntosh (Stratford) from the Minor Midgets.

Klomp went bar down to give the Lakers the lead after converting a perfectly placed pass orchastrated by some solid work down low by Brett McGuinness (Stratford) & Braden Connolly (Seaforth). Waterloo surged ahead 2-1 but Evan Scherbarth (Elma-Logan) snagged his 1st goal as a Laker to tie the game. Pfeffer & Justin McCann earned the assists.

After outshooting Waterloo 22-20 in regulation, the teams were headed to a shoot-out. Waterloo chose to shoot 1st and went up 1-0. Scherbarth drew the Lakers even 1-1. Waterloo's next shooter missed high & wide. Klomp narrowly missed the inside post to leave the score knotted. Waterloo's 3rd shooter was stopped head on by Derrick Mitchell (Goderich) leaving the door open for the Lakers. Connolly went in & fired a hard shot but Waterloo's goaltender slid to his left & took the shot just off the inside arm to see the final end in a 2-2 tie.

The 3 weekend points moves the Lakers from 8th to 6th place with only 6 points separating them from 1st place London.
