The Good, The Bad and the Ugly!
The Major PeeWee Lakers had a busy weekend playing three games in three days.  They managed to come away with 5 of a possible 6 points and now have a league record of 11 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie.

Friday vs EMC

Friday in Hensall the Chiefs were looking to avenge their 5-2 loss from last Sunday. It looked as if special teams would decide the winner as both teams scored power play goals early. The Lakers however, would make good with their speed and avoid a lot of the physical play that EMC was bringing. With the Lakers finding themselves up 5-3 in the dying minutes of the game, a Laker player would clearly get hauled down with the EMC net empty but there would be no call and the Chiefs, with the extra attacker, would make a quick transition with the puck to gain the Lakers blue line and snap home their final marker to make the final score 5-4 for the Lakers.

Saturday vs Hamilton

The Lakers travelled to Hamilton to play on the Olympic-size ice which they’ve historically had trouble with.  Saturday would be no different as Hamilton came out super aggressive and maximized the wide playing surface and the Lakers found themselves playing catch up for much of the game. The Lakers actually tied the game at 2-2 midway through the 3rd period and actually had a good chance to take the lead but when things aren’t going your way, you just have to try and persevere. Final score 2-2 and the Lakers coaching staff was quite happy to get out of ‘Steel Town’ with a point!

Sunday vs Waterloo

Trying to avenge their home opening loss to Waterloo, the Lakers found themselves in quite a dog fight at RIM Park on Sunday. Scoring two early goals gave the Lakers the momentum they needed as they were constantly being run at by Waterloo forecheckers in an attempt to intimidate our squad. Waterloo would get 1 goal back on the power play and then score again to tie the game at 2-2. The Lakers would put together a nice passing play midway through the 3rd period however and score to put themselves on top at 3-2. A fast paced, furious finish would see the Lakers hang on for the win much to the dismay of a frustrated Waterloo squad. At the buzzer, facing their 1st league loss, Waterloo temperatures would boil over and incompetent officiating would allow a few altercations to occur on the ice, putting a dark cloud over what had been a pretty good contest by both teams.  A very gritty effort put in by the Lakers for sure in a very physical affair. Way to step up Lakers!

Next up, Windsor in Stratford on Saturday and a rematch with Waterloo on Sunday at the MRC in Goderich at 5:30 pm.
