Tough Sledding for Minor Midgets as they play 4 Games in 6 Nights
The week of December 16th to 23rd saw the Lakers play four games in six nights. Mother Nature played havoc with the Lakers' practice schedule during this week. Due to poor winter weather, the Lakers were not able to practice prior to any of the games. As a result, the team was not very sharp although they managed to gain three points and snap an eleven game winless streak.

December 16th – Cambridge Hawks
The Hawks ventured to Stratford Dufferin to face the Lakers on December 16th. These teams know each other fairly well and there aren’t too many secrets in how each team plays against the other. This game was a little unusual as far as penalty calls. The Lakers found themselves in penalty trouble in the 1st, taking five straight minor penalties. Cambridge ended the 1st period with a 1-0 lead, ironically not by scoring on the power play. Congrats to the Lakers penalty killers for an outstanding job including two lengthy five on three kills.

The 2nd period was a reverse of the 1st for penalty calls. This time, Cambridge was called for six minor penalties in succession. The Lakers were able to capitalize scoring twice on the power play.

The 3rd period was all Cambridge. They scored three goals in a four minute span early to put the game out of reach. No penalties were called in the 3rd and the game finally saw some flow. Unfortunately for the Lakers, goaltender Joe Metzger was injured in this game and will be lost for approximately four weeks.

Scoring for the Lakers:
2nd Jayden Landry from Ben Kirwin and Michael Siddall

2nd Mac MacSorley from Riley McCabe and Greg Williams

December 17th – Hamilton Reps
A late Friday night start against division rivals awaited the Lakers on December 17th. In one of their better starts of the year, the Lakers opened a 2-0 1st period lead. Give Hamilton credit in this game, they didn’t give up and pressured the Lakers from the 2nd period on. Eventually, the Reps tied the score with 3:59 to go in the 3rd. Final shot total was 31-17 in favour of Hamilton. Laker goalie Ben Errington made a number of spectacular saves to secure a tie for visitors.

Scoring for the Lakers
1st Mackinley O'Keefe from Nick Castell
1st MacSorley from Braydon Blight

December 19th – Sun County Panthers

The Allman arena was the venue for a visit from the Sun County squad. Even though the Lakers have had success in recent years against the Panthers, a game against this big, physical team is always tough.

The Panthers started strong and built a 2-0 lead in the 1st. It looked like it might be a long day but the Lakers started to fight back and the game became a little more even. A late 2nd period goal gave Sun County a 3-0 leading entering the 3rd. In the 3rd, Sun County ran into penalty trouble and the Lakers special teams capitalized on two power play goals and one short-handed effort to make a close game of it. Sun County scored another and added an empty net goal to win the game 5-3. Errington stopped 30 of 33 shots against.

Scoring for the Lakers
3rd Blight from Siddall

3rd Siddall from Brett Stacey

3rd Siddall from Landry

December 21st – London Green
London travelled to Palmerston for the final league game of the year between these two teams. The last game was close and the Lakers were expecting a tough battle.

Most of the scoring in this game occurred in the 2nd period. The Lakers' Nick Castell had a natural hat trick and London notched three of their own to start the 3rd tied at 3-3. With 5:53 left in the 3rd, Kirwin pounced on a rebound and gave the Lakers the winning goal.

Not the best of efforts for the home team, but as they say, a “win is a win”.

Scoring for the Lakers
2nd Castell from Devin Williams and O'Keefe

2nd Castell from O'Keefe

2nd Castell from O'Keefe

3rd Kirwin from MacSorley
