Major Atom Lakers offensively explode on weekend
The Major Atom Lakers finished their regular season with 2 strong offensive showings.  On Saturday Jan. 21 in Brantford, the Lakers pounded the Brantford 99ers 12-4.  Back in Goderich on Sunday Jan. 22, the Lakers put away the pesky Kitchener Rangers 6-2.

Against the Brantford 99ers, the Lakers had only a 1-0 lead after the first period but saw that grow to a 7-2 lead after the second period.  Multiple point getters included Kyle Stanbury (5 goals, 2 assists) and Joshua Zelek (1 goal, 5 assists).   Braeden Burdett, Zach Dow, Jake Weston and Tanner Reid each had a goal and an assist.   Other goal scorers included Carter McLlwain and Reid Campbell.  Maxim Mulder, Sam Dupuis, and Ethan Roche also contributed with pairs of assists.  Goalie Bobby McLachlan made key saves while the Lakers were chiefly focused on the offensive aspects of the game.

Against the Kitchener Rangers, the Lakers found themselves behind early but deadlocked the score at 1-1 before the first period ended.  The Lakers opened up a 3-1 lead after two periods. Multiple point scorers include Joshua Zelek (3 goals, 1 assist), Kyle Stanbury (1 goal, 3 assists) and  Braeden Burdett (1 goal, 2 assists).  Sam Dupuis rounded off the goal scoring.  Others generating assists included Maxim Mulder, Carter McLlwain and Tanner Reid.  Owen Hahn was solid in the net.

Other players that strongly contributed defensively during the weekend included Shawn Barnett, Mathew Schwindt, Griffin St. Onge and Robert McNiven.  The Lakers will begin their playoffs in a couple of weeks and enter the playoffs on a positive roll.  Go Lakers!
