New Year....New Challenges
The Minor PeeWee Lakers have been busy over the past couple of weeks travelling the roads.
First the Lakers took Niagara Falls by storm falling just short of moving on to the semi final round.
This past weekend the Lakers faced some of the toughest competition in the league coming out with a win, loss and a tie!

The Lakers participated in the Niagara Rivermen tournament the weekend of January 6-8, 2012.  The Lakers would first face the Hamburg Hawks, walking away with a 6-2 win!  Later in the day the Lakers would face the mighty Panthers of Sun County.  Despite being the first to light up the score board, the Lakers fell short losing 3-1.
The following day the Lakers played the London Jr. Knights.  The game remained at 1 a piece.  With what ended up being the Lakers 4th and final game in the tournament, the Lakers dominated the play against the Central Ontario Wolves with the hopes of tying for 3rd-4th place, which would grant them a spot in the semi finals. Although the Lakers defeated the Wolves 3-1 they were eliminated from the semi finals due to tournament rules and tough competition in their pool.  The Lakers should be extremely proud of their play over the course of the weekend as the Wolves ended as tournament champions.

On January 13, 2012 the Lakers travelled to Kitchener to face the Rangers in what proved to be a very physical game of hockey.  With an accumulated 48 minutes in penalties between the two teams the Lakers demonstrated their skill in killing off penalties.  Two of the Lakers goals were scored on power plays and the other two scored short handed.  The Rangers were only able to net 1 lone goal against the mighty Lakers net minder.

On January 14, 2012 the Lakers hit the road again travelling to Komoka to face the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs, who were ranked 6th in the province.  The Lakers battled hard for the puck and along the boards.  With the Lakers playing great positional hockey, the Chiefs were only able to find the back of the Lakers net once.  Unfortunately the Chiefs net minder covered the net post to post and kept the Lakers from scoring.

On January 15, 2012 the Lakers hosted the Waterloo Wolves...again another tough team (ranked 5th in the province).  With only a minute into the second period the Lakers found themselves ahead of the Wolves 2-0.  The Wolves clearly were having a hard time swallowing the fact they were losing.  The Wolves eventually came back to tie the game 2-2.  The Lakers played an incredible game of hockey and proved that no one should underestimate the power of the Lakers!

What a great weekend of hockey Lakers!
