Off to a Winning Start
After not being able to beat the Brantford 99ers in regular season, the 2000 Lakers started the play-off quarter finals by taking 3 straight, hard fought games against the Brantford 99ers.

On Saturday, February 18, 2012 the Lakers hosted the Brantford 99s in the first game of the quarter finals in St. Marys.  Throughout the game both teams endured several penalties and played much of the game short handed.  The Lakers were first to light up the score board in the first period.  The Lakers were not able to fend off the 99ers short handed early in the second period, as the 99ers scored to tie the game at one a piece.  However the Lakers saw an opportunity of their own, capitalizing on a power play minutes later.  The game was sealed with one final goal in the third period to secure the win 3-1.

On Sunday, February 19, 2012 the Lakers faced the 99ers this time on Gretzky's home turf.  The 99ers were caught a little off guard as the Lakers scored 41 seconds into the game.  The Lakers managed to net their final goal of the game on a power play in the second period.  With an empty net the 99ers slid one past the Lakers net minder with only 17 seconds remaining on the clock.  The Lakers managed to protect their net for the remainder of the game, securing the win 2-1.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2012 the Lakers hosted the 99ers back in Goderich in hopes of securing their spot to advance onto the semi final play off round.  The Lakers came out flat and scrambling in the first period and did not seem to be getting any bounces their way.  With a forward out ill and a D-man watching from the stands the Lakers had a hard time finding their rhythm. In the second period, the Lakers became a little more lively and started winning the battles on the boards.  In attempt to fend off the aggressive 99ers the Lakers managed to get the puck out of their zone to find an open man.  With the 99ers all over them, a wrist shot was fired in the top corner of the 99ers net.  This would be the only goal of the game.  The 99ers tried to gain momentum and the advantage with an extra man and open net, however all the Lakers played strong defensive hockey for the remainder of the game to secure the win 1-0 and the honour of the shut-out.

The Lakers will now wait to see who their next victims will be.

Keep up the hard work Lakers!  Let's take this all the way!
