Major Atoms Record Tie and Loss Over Weekend
The Major Atoms rolled into Chatham on Saturday looking to avenge a loss from the opening game of the season.  The Lakers came out flying and took the early lead Teale’s goal from Gaylor and Wideman.  They took a 2-0 lead on a goal from Hotson (assist by Wideman) .   Wideman added another (from Coultes) to take the Lakers into the third period with a 3-2 advantage.  After a rally by the Cyclones and the Lakers finding themselves down 4-3 late in the game, McCann (from Hotson) got the equalizer with 5:15 left in the match to finish the scoring at 4-4.  Of note was the solid goaltending of both Kints and Chatham’s goaltender between the pipes as they foiled numerous scoring opportunities.   Good work Lakers.

Sunday the Major Atoms hosted the Windsor Jr. Spitfires at the Maitland centre.  While the Lakers came out strong and  played a solid game, the Windsor powerplay and tough goaltending proved to be too much for the Lakers on this day.  After giving up 2 powerplay goals to their opponents in the first and down 3-0 in the second, McCann finally solved the Windsor goalie with a short side snipe over the shoulder.  Windsor would add another powerplay marker in the second and a fourth in the third to make the score 5-1.  While the teams had equal opportunities, the Spits backstop seemed to be the difference in the game.   The Lakers look to a big week as they travel to London, Sun County and Windsor.
