Major Atoms Go 1-1-1 for the Weekend
The Major Atom Lakers, on a western division road trip the past week started things off in London on Wednesday night. While the Lakers came out strong they couldn't get pucks to the net against a tough Jr. Knights defense. Both teams played well defensively as shots were 2-2 after the first, however it was the Knights scoring four times before Connor Aarts (from Tyler Hotson) finally put one thru on a short handed goal late in the third. Final Score London 4, Lakers 1.

On Saturday, the Major Atoms travelled to Essex to take on the Sun County Panthers. Quickly they found themselves down 1-0 but picked things back up and started to take things to the opposition. Before the end of the first Blake Wideman got the equilizer, assisted by Sheldon Pryce (who had a hat trick and 2 assists on the day) . It was all Lakers from there as they moved the puck well and outworked their opponents while tallying 7 more unanswered goals. In the back end, the defense played a solid game, minimizing chances from the Panthers while Hardy Westman took care of the rest to record the win. Adding the rest of the goals for the Lakers; Hotson 2, Zac McCann, Zach Teale. Assists: Kayden Schooley 3, Tate Gaylor 2, McCann, Bobby Leis, Aarts. Final Score Lakers 8 - Panthers 1.

Sunday the Lakers took on the Windsor Jr. Spitfires in a rematch from a week ago. Again the Lakers had a good start to the game and controlled the puck for much of the first part of the game. But a stingy Windsor goalie and a tough defense along with the strong play of Kints in the Lakers goal kept the first period scoreless. The Lakers would take the lead at the beginning of the second as Kaden Hoggarth jumped on a loose puck and jammed it in(assisted by Mason Weber & Hotson). Windsor would tie things up shortly after and add 2 more to take a 3-1 lead The Lakers would keep up the pressure, but once again were having trouble finding the back of the net on a big Spitfires goaltender. At the one minute mark of the third, the Lakers pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker. The Lakers gained possession it their opponents end and Schooley fired a blast that found the net thru traffic with 38 seconds remaining. Assists by Pryce and McCann. With the face off at center, the Lakers would then trade in for the extra attacker for the last 20 seconds. With 12 seconds left in the game, Schooley on a feed from Pryce would blast another one to the front of the net where McCann would get his stick on it to steer it past the goalie to tie things up at 3-3. Good work Lakers.
