Major Atoms have another 3 point weekend to go unbeaten in 7
Written by Jeff Aarts

For the third time in four weeks, the Major Atom Lakers came out of the weekend with 3 points recording a win and a tie. On Saturday the Lakers travelled into Elgin-Middlesex territory to take on the Chiefs. HPL was fired up for the game looking to upset their first place opponents. The Lakers took the lead first in this tight game, on a solo effort by Kayden Schooley. The Chiefs would tie things up before Kaden Hoggarth (from Mason Weber and Braeden McNaughton) would put HPL ahead 2-1. Even with the stellar play of Dylan Kints between the pipes, and solid defense through numerous penalty kills, the Lakers could not hold their lead as the Chiefs would tie things back up again to end the game at a 2-2 draw.

Sunday the Major Atoms would take their unbeaten streak of 6 games into Cambridge to take on the Hawks. The Lakers came out of the gate strong jumping out to the lead in the first period with a wrap around goal by Kayden Schooley. The Lakers would continue to press in the second as Sheldon Pryce stepped out of the corner and let a wrist shot go to beat the Hawks netminder (assist to Bobby Leis). The Lakers would strike again as Blake Wideman would jam in a rebound to put the Lakers ahead 3-0. The Lakers seemed to be in control at this point, until a early 3rd period goal by the Hawks seemed to breath some life back into the Lakers opponents. Solid goaltending by Hardy Westman and stong penalty kill however, enabled the Lakers to hold off the surge for a 3-1 win and extend their unbeaten streak to 7 games.
