The minor peewee Huron Perth Lakers took 3 out of 4 possible
points this past weekend. In Goderich on
Saturday Oct. 13, on Laker day, the Lakers handily defeated the Lambton Sting
6-4 while in Cambridge on Sunday Oct. 14, the Lakers fought back from 2 one
goal deficits to salvage a 2-2 tie with the Cambridge Hawks.
In Goderich, the Lakers built up a 3-0 1st period lead. Joshua Zelek opened the scoring from Kyle Stanbury and Braeden Burdett. Tyson Hall added to the lead, popping in a Carter McLlwain rebound with Stanbury getting another assist. Eric Vander Eyk finished off the 1st period scoring by banging in a loose puck, with assists going to Joel Denotter and Reid Campbell. The Sting got one back early but McLlwain was set by Hall in the slot to regain a 3 goal margin. However the Sting reduced the margin to 4-2 before the 2nd period was over. Burdett banged in a Zelek rebound early in the third, Stanbury picking up another assist. Again the Sting closed the gap to 2 before Stanbury was set up by Zelek. The Sting added a late goal to end the game 6-4 Lakers.
In Cambridge, the Hawks scored early to take a 1-0 lead. Zelek brought the puck from his end to the other end before feeding Burdett who buried the pass to tie the game. The Hawks scored another to end the 1st 2-1 Hawks. In the 2nd period, Zach Dow dumped the puck deep below the goaline to Zelek who saucered a pass to Burdett out front who tied the game 2-2. There were no other goals scored.
The Lakers now prepare to compete at the Detroit Warrior Invitational tournament next weekend. Go Lakers!
