Lakers split weekend games
Lakers lose to Brantford, bounce back against Chatham-Kent.

The Minor Bantams split a pair of games this past weekend.  Saturday, in St. Mary's, the Lakers ran into a red-hot Brantford team and despite the return of defenceman Carter Collinson, dropped a 2-0 decision.  The HPL held the advantage in puck control throughout the game, but failed to create many scoring chances.  The game was scoreless until 4 minutes into the 3rd period, when the 99ers pounced on a turnover and scored a shorthanded breakaway goal on goaltender Justin Hergott.  With just under 5 minutes remaining in the game, Brantford scored the insurance goal to close out the scoring.  The Lakers went 0 for 8 on the powerplay, but were very effective in killing off all 7 shorthanded situations.

Sunday, in Chatham, the Lakers defeated the Chatham-Kent Cyclones 2-1.  Blair Butchart opened up the scoring, on the powerplay,  pouncing on a rebound from a Ben Derrough shot from the point, to give the Lakers the lead midway through the second period.  The lead was short lived, as the Cyclones beat goaltender Brock Baier just 4 minutes later to tie the game up heading into the 3rd period.  Mitchell Casey would score the game winner, burying a loose puck from the hash marks with just under 7 minutes to go in the period.  Scott Stovel and Will Thibeault would assist on the goal.

The Lakers will travel to Windsor this weekend to take on the Spitfires Saturday, then will face Sun County in Essex on Sunday.
