Tough weekend for Lakers
Goal scoring drought hurts the Minor Bantams.

The Minor Bantams scored just 4 goals, and collected a single point, in a 3 game weekend.  Friday night in Cambridge, the Lakers needed a pair of 3rd period goals to salvage a 2-2 tie.  Scoreless after the first period, the Lakers could not capitalize on 3 powerplays, and allowed 2 quick goals, 21 seconds apart, in the last minute of the second period.  The third period was dominated by the Lakers, and some nice passing in the neutral zone allowed Tanner Johnson to break free and score with a snap shot to the top corner to open the Laker scoring.  Scott Stovel and Brett Denny assisted on the goal.  Noah Kuno scored on a nifty backhand deke just over a minute later to tie the game up.  Will Thibeault and Isaiah Waxman assisted on Kuno's goal.  Goaltender Justin Hergott played well throughout the game.  Both teams took 4 minor penalties.

Saturday, in Milverton, the London Knights avenged an earlier loss to the Lakers, and left with a 4-1 win.  The Knights bombarded goaltender Brock Baier, who kept his team in the game, and scored 4 powerplay goals in the win.  Scott Stovel scored the Lakers only goal, on the powerplay, early in the second period to cut the lead to 2-1.  Mitchell Casey recorded the only assist on the goal.  London would score a single goal in both the second and third periods, and received 18 minutes in penalties, while the Lakers would serve 20 minutes in penalties.

The Lakers travelled to Brantford on Sunday, and lost a key divisional game 2-1.  After a scoreless first period, Stovel swooped in during a goalmouth scramble, and opened the scoring 7 minutes into the 2nd period.  Johnson, and Tanner Hertel assisted on the goal.  Brantford scored on the powerplay 2 minutes later to tie the game heading into the 3rd period.  After some good pressure in the 99ers zone, a offensive zone miscue led to a solo rush, as Brantford scored the game winner with just over 3 minutes left in the game.  The Lakers were assessed 18 minutes in penalties, while Brantford served 8 minutes.

The HPL will play a home and home set with Hamilton this coming weekend.
