Lakers take 4 points
HPL defeat Hamilton twice on weekend.

The Minor Bantam Huron Perth Lakers took both games of a home and home with division rival Hamilton this past weekend.  Saturday, in St. Mary's, 2 second period goals were the difference, in a 2-1 win.  After a scoreless first period, a Carter Collinson blast from the point created a rebound opportunity for Rhys Vollmer, and he made no mistake beating the sprawled goalie, as the Lakers opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the period.  Four minutes later, Tanner Hertel was left wide open in the slot, and wired a snap shot home to increase the lead.  Jacob Rooke, and Ben Derrough earned assists on the winning goal.  Hamilton would score with 5 minutes left in the game, on the powerplay, to break Brock Baier's shutout bid.  Despite taking 18 minutes in penalties, the Lakers gave up just 10 shots on goal, while registering 13 shots in the game.

Sunday, in Hamilton, the game featured many more scoring opportunites for both teams, as the Lakers prevailed 2-0.   Once again, Vollmer opened the scoring, on the powerplay, 30 seconds into the 3rd period to give the Lakers the lead.  Rooke, and Mitchell Casey assisted on the wrap-around game winning goal.  The score remained the same throughout the third as the Lakers played solid defensive hockey that frustrated any attack that Hamilton could muster.  A terrific effort by Isaiah Waxman in the defensive zone ending with a perfect pass to a wide open Tanner Johnson resulted in an empty net powerplay goal with 2 seconds left in the game.  Casey collected his second point of the game with an assist on the play as well.  Justin Hergott collected the shutout win, highlighted by a beautiful glove save on a shorthanded breakaway in the 2nd period to keep the game scoreless.  Both teams served 8 minutes in penalties.

The Lakers will compete in the International SilverStick tournament this coming weekend in Whitby.
