Submitted By Jill tenHag on Wednesday, October 24, 2018
The Huron Perth Lakers raised the cup in celebration after winning the the Major Atom Division of the 45th annual Oktoberfest Tournament.

18 teams from across Ontario and the US came to Kitchener to compete in this historical tournament. The Atoms started the weekend off with convincing back to back 4-1 wins over the North Central Predators and Kingston Jr. Frontenacs.  Saturday started out with a tough test against the fast and skilled Burlington Jr. Cougars.  A 2-2 tie was the result.  Next up were the Rochester Monarchs to finish out group play.  The Lakers gradually started to pull away and eventually won 8-2.  3 wins and a tie put the Atoms at the top of their group and a bye into the semis to face the host Kitchener Jr. Rangers.  Huron-Perth versus Kitchener have always been close battles and this was no different.  In the end the Lakers eliminated the host team with a 3-2 win.  A rematch was in store against Burlington in the final.  It was a clean game with fast back and forth hockey.  The Lakers celebrated their Oktoberfest Championship defeating Burlington 3-1.
