David Dalby scored both goals for the Huron-Perth Lakers as the host team tied Upper Canada Cyclones 2-2 Thursday in the final day of round-robin play at the Ontario Hockey Federation bantam AAA tournament at the RBC Arena in the Stratford Rotary Complex.

The tie left the Lakers with a record of 1-4-1 sixth place in the seven-team event. The Cyclones, 2-3-1, earned the fourth and final playoff spot thanks to the single point.

Upper Canada will face the first-place Toronto Marlies, 6-0, in one semifinal at 6 p.m. tonight, while the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs, 5-1, and the York-Simcoe Express, 4-2, will meet in the other at 8 p.m.

The third-place game is slated for 11 a.m. Saturday with the championship at 2 p.m.

The Lakers needed a victory by a lopsided score in Thursday’s game to have a chance of getting into the playoff round but managed only the two goals by Dalby, one of three Stratford-born players on the Lakers’ roster.

Garrett Meurs of Ripley had two assists while Mac Nichol of Listowel and Derek Cowing of Embro each had one.

Meurs finished as the top point-getter for the Lakers as he figured in on eight of their 10 goals in the six games. His three goals and eight points tied for seventh place in the tournament.

Dalby had three goals and an assist, Nichol a goal and three assists and Cowing a goal and two assists. Nichol’s total ranked fourth among defencemen in the tournament.

Toronto and York-Simcoe players held down the top seven spots in scoring with Ryan Strome of the Marlies topping the chart with 16 (3g-13a).

Zach Mitchell and Lucas Lessio of the Marlies shared the tournament lead in goals with six each.
Lucas Easterbrook of Elgin-Middlesex was the tournament’s leading goaltender with a 5-1 record and just three goals allowed for a 0.50 goals-against.
