James Westman to perform O'Canada a Championship Opening Ceromonies
Proud Hockey Dad, James Westman is an internationally acclaimed Canadian baritone
known for his interpretation of the Verdi, Puccini and bel canto operatic
repertoire, and particularly his signature role of ‘Germont’ in La Traviata,
which he has sung in over 150 performances world wide.
James is regularly featured as the Anthem singer for the Toronto Maple Leafs and numerous other NHL franchises. He has been performing the Anthems for the Toronto Maple Leafs for 20 years in over 50 games. He was Anthem singer, by request from Doug Gilmour. for Doug’s silver stick celebration and retired Jersey celebration. James sang the anthem for Gretzky’s final game at Maple Leaf Gardens. He received the final game puck for his contribution. James resides in Stratford close to the Westman heritage farm dating back to 1771 James has performed in all the major Opera Houses and Concert Halls in the world. He has debut in three world premieres and recorded over a dozen classical recordings with Decca, CBC. BBC and Opera Rara. Four of James Westman's recordings have been nominated for a Juno Award. Two recordings nominated for a Grammy Award. James is host of ‘This is my Music’ at the CBC. Mr. Westman has won several prestigious international voice competitions; Marilyn HorneFoundation, Licia Albanese Foundation, D’angelo Competition, Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyrique. In June 1999 he was a finalist and audience favourite at the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition Mr. Westman, is Voice Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University and conducts vocal Master classes in Universities, Conservatories and Opera Company’s through the world. This summer, Mr. Westman will be guest professor at the Beijing Conservatory.
James and his wife Dini Westman want to thank the Huron Perth Laker Organization for their competitive excellence and great contribution to all the young men in our community . James’ son, Hardy Westman, is goalie for the Huron Perth Lakers Minor Peewee.
