Tournament Format and Rules
Team officials must register at the tournament office at the Rotary Complex prior to noon on the first day of the tournament. Approved rosters and travel permits must be presented to a Tournament official for review. The team official will sign a copy of tournament rules acknowledging you have reviewed, understand and are in agreement with them.
1) Tournament regulations and playing rules are those of Hockey Canada, OHF and Alliance Hockey governing bodies. The following rules shall apply:
All teams must be registered with the CHA, USA Hockey or IIHF affiliate.
Fighting major, gross misconduct and match penalties are automatic tournament suspensions.
It is the responsibility of the team to ensure any player or team official who has been assessed a game suspension prior to the tourney commencing sits out the required amount of games as per OHF minimum suspension rules. Failure to comply will result in the offending team forfeiting the game, which will be recorded as a 1-0 loss.
As per Alliance Hockey rules the home team will wear dark coloured jerseys and the visiting team will wear light.
All teams must dress a minimum of 12 players with the maximum being 19 (including 2 goalies). Affiliated players are accepted provided they are registered on the official roster. If an AP player is to participate in the playoff rounds, they must have played in at least one round robin game to be eligible. Any team found with ineligible players participating will be disqualified from the tournament.
All team staff members must be officially registered with their organization. No more than five (5) carded officials are allowed on the bench during a game.
Body Checking: there is no body checking in the minor peewee division. Body checking is permitted minor bantam.
2) Games
Teams must be prepared to start 15 minutes prior to their scheduled game times as games will start early if tournament is ahead of schedule.
All games will be 10-15-15 stop time. There will be no floods after the 2nd period during Round Robin and semi-final games. There will be a flood after the 2nd period in the Final games only.
In the event of over-time -in the Finals, a maximum two minute break will occur prior to the start of the OT period.
Pre-game warm up will be 3 minutes after which the referee will blow the whistle to indicate the start of the game. Teams will then tap gloves at center ice and then line up immediately for face off.
Play-off rounds will be allowed one 30 second time out per game. No timeouts during round robin play.
During preliminary play a five-goal differential at any time in the third period will result in running time. If the deficit is reduced to three goals, stop time will resume.
3) Round Robin and Play-off Formats
Minor Bantam
Each team will play 4 round robin games
Teams will be awarded 2 points for a win 1 point each for a tie and 0 for a loss.
After the 4 round robin games all teams will be ranked 1 through 14.
The top 4 teams will advance to the semi-final games Sunday morning
The format for the semi-finals will be 1st vs. 4th and 2nd vs 3rd.
Minor Peewee
Each team will play 4 round robin games
Teams will be awarded 2 points for a win 1 point each for a tie and 0 for a loss.
After the 4 round robin games all teams will be ranked 1 through 14.
The top 4 teams will advance to the semi-final games Sunday morning
The format for the semi-finals will be 1st vs. 4th and 2nd vs 3rd.
Playoff Format
In the Semi-Final and Final games there will be a sudden death overtime period of 5 minutes stop time, if tied after regulation. If still tied, a three player shootout will occur. Each team will select 3 different players to each shoot on the opposing goalie. If one team scores more goals than other team, they will be awarded with the win. The home team will shoot first, followed by visiting team until all three shooters have had a turn. If one team has scored sufficient goals and the other team cannot possibly equal this total, remaining shots are not required to be taken. If still tied after 3 shooters, a sudden victory shootout will occur. The home team will shoot first, followed by the visiting team, until one team has scored and the other has not. A player may not shoot twice unless all players on roster (exception being goalie) have taken a shot.
4) Tie Breaker Rules
In the case of a tie between teams following regular play, the tie breaker system shall be as follows:
1. Head to Head winner in round-robin
2. Team with the most wins
3. Tie-breaking percentage: GF/(GF+GA). Note: When applying this formula the max goal differential in any game shall be no greater than 10
4. Least goals against
5. Coin toss
In the case of any disputes the decision of the Tournament Committee will be final.
5) Awards
Tournament Champions will be recognized on the Great Lakes Cup Trophy and have the opportunity to be photographed with the Cup. In addition all champion participants will receive an individual replica of the tournament cup to take home. A Championship trophy will be presented to the winning team to take home to their team trophy case as well.
Tournament finalists will receive a medallion.
