Minor Atom Lakers lose in semi final
The Minor Atom Lakers traveled to London this weekend to take part in the Early Bird tournament.  On Friday the boys took on Richmond Hill to start off the tournament.  The two evenly matched teams played a very high tempo game, with the Lakers coming out on the short end of a 3-2 score.  Later Friday night, the boys drew Markham in a very fast and entertaining game.  It was a back and forth affair, with some penalty trouble in the second but the penalty killing unit for the Lakers pulled through and the Lakers managed a 3-3 tie to send them into Saturday. On Saturday morning

the Lakers would face off against Central Ontario.  With a tight first and second the Lakers held a 1-0 lead going into the third.  In the third, the Lakers broke it open with 4 unanswered and won running away with a 5-0 win and put them into position to play Elgin later that day.  As always with Elgin, it was a very close contest as both teams traded goals throughout the game as both teams played to a hard earned draw 3-3.  With the tie, the Lakers claimed first place in their highly competitive group and pushed them into Sunday for the semi finals against the Waxers from Markham.  The semi final game started out well for the Lakers as they jumped out early to a 1-0 lead 3 minutes into the game.  The Waxers tied the game, and eventually went ahead to hand the Lakers a deficit of 2-1 heading into the second.  As the game continued the Lakers found themselves in penalty trouble the rest of the game as the Waxers scored three times on the powerplay to hand the Lakers a 6-2 defeat, sending them home from the tournament.  The boys played very well throughout the tournament finding themselves behind, and clawing their way back to tie some hockey games.  A good start, for a hard working group.
