Major Peewees Shoot Down Spitfires and Tame Wolves
This past weekend the Major PeeWee Lakers gained 4 points by defeating both Windsor and Waterloo. This now brings their league record to 13 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie.

vs Windsor Spitfires

In their first meeting of the season the Lakers and Spitfires found each other to be a little tentative as neither team could find the net until Brent West would score off a defenders’ stick near the end of the first frame on the power play. Josh Britton and Jared Nash would draw assists.

Midway through the 2nd period the Spits would tie the score but Chayse Herrfort would then score 2 goals on one shift, the first being on the power play from Keaton Middleton, and the 2nd from Jon Baker and Liam Melady just 9 seconds later! Luka Marinic would add another goal by putting in the rebound off a Luke Goris shot late in the period to take a 4-1 lead into the intermission. Middleton also drew an assist on the play.

In the 3rd, Windsor would score on a power play breakaway but West would respond with a final tally from Nash and Nicole Zabel to make the final score 5-2 for the Lakers.

Shots would be 28-15 in favour of the Lakers with Wyatt Nicholson turning away 13 of 15 shots.

vs Waterloo Wolves

In a rematch of last Sunday, the Wolves and Lakers would battle with the winner moving into top spot in the Alliance. Waterloo would draw first blood midway through the 1st but the Lakers would tie it up with 2 minutes remaining in the period on a goal by Britton assisted by Keenan Conlon and West.

The Lakers would score midway through the 2nd period on a shot from the point by Middleton from Bogdon and Baker. The Lakers would relinquish that lead by giving up a shorthanded goal during their next power play seven minutes later. However, with just 28 seconds remaining in the period, Mackinnon Hawkins would catch a Wolves defenseman sleeping and bury a nice shot over the shoulder of the Wolves’ net minder with the assist going to Melady.

Early into the third period however, the Wolves would pull even on a perimeter shot that would somehow elude the glove of Lakers goalie Tristan Lewis. Five minutes later, the Lakers would go on the PP and Herrfort would take a nice feed from Britton and put the Lakers back on top 4-3. Then with 4 minutes left Herrfort would out battle 2 Waterloo defenders behind the net and set up West in front who would put the Lakers up 5-3. The Lakers would take a penalty with 3 minutes remaining but would do a good job of killing it off to secure the win.

Shots were 17-16 in favour of the Wolves. A great hockey game from two good teams.
