Season concludes for Huron Perth Lakers AAA Major Bantams.
After dropping game four of the semi finals series, 4 – 1 to the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs on Saturday, 24 Feb 12 in St Marys, the Huron Perth Lakers faced the Chiefs in a 5th and final game to decide who would advance to the Alliance Championships against the Sun County Panthers.

Game 5 would prove to be a classic nail biter, edge of your seat type game with neither team willing to concede an error or turnover to tilt the balance of play. The first period was a close checking, highly offensive game with many great scoring opportunities by both teams and exceptionally stingy goal tending by both the Chiefs and the Lakers which saw no scoring after 15 mins of play.

The second period tended to open up somewhat as the teams took chances and penalties to gain the upper hand. The only goal of the game would come on a Chiefs power play mid way thru the 2nd and a point shot which caught the Lakers goalie, Ben Larder upon the screen, just under the cross bar and over the right shoulder.

In the 3rd the Lakers pressed a relentless attack with raw heart, courage and determination, sensing a goal was within reach. There were a couple of close calls, but the bounces did not go in favour of the Lakers as the Chiefs held firm to their one goal margin. As the Lakers pulled their goalie in the dying minutes of the 3rd, the Lakers held the Chiefs in their zone until the last 5s or so as tempers started to flare. With no love lost between them, the Lakers took the opportunity to bid the Chiefs farewell as they advance to the Alliance Championship.

Congrats to the Major Bantams and coaching staff for an exciting and rewarding season of hockey. Best wishes and continued success next season!
