One and One After Day One

The HPL Major Peewees went 1 and 1 after the 1st day of the All-Ontario AAA Championships in St. Marys…

The HPL Major Peewees had a strong start against the NWO All-Stars recording a 6 – 1 win. Jamie Huber led the scoring with 3 goals and 1 assist. Cullen Mercer had 2 goals and 1 assist. Carson Brookshaw scored the other Lakers goal with single assists in the game going to Zach Jacobs, Joshua Higgins, Mykal Hodges, Blake Nichol, Ted Nichol and Tristan Connolly. Ben Larder had the win in net with Jamie Huber receiving the MVP award for the Lakers.

 

In the 2nd game of the day for the Lakers following the Open Ceremonies, the Lakers were matched up against Nickel City Sons and fell behind 2 – 0 before Kenny Huether put the Lakers on the scoreboard with assists going to Evan Chaffe and Nathan Smith. The Lakers controlled most of the 2nd period but couldn’t tie up the game. Early in the 3rd period Nichol City Sons went up 3–1. With the Lakers pressuring with a strong forcheck late in the 3rd, Evan Chaffe scored from Nathan Smith and Kenny Huether. As the Lakers pulled their goalie in the last minute of the game trying to score the equalizer they gave up one into the empty net giving Nickel City Sons a 4–2 win. Nathan Smith picked up the MVP award for the Lakers.

 

Next up for the Lakers is Sun County Panthers on Tuesday at 4:00 pm
