Great Lakes Cup Tournament Rules
 
Team officials must register at the tournament office at the Rotary Complex prior to noon on the first day of the tournament. Approved rosters and travel permits must be presented to a Tournament official for review
 
1) Tournament regulations and playing rules are those of Hockey Canada, OHF and Alliance Hockey governing bodies. The following rules shall apply: -Fighting major, gross misconduct and match penalties are automatic tournament suspensions.
-As per Alliance Hockey rules the home team will wear dark coloured jerseys and the visiting team will wear light.  
-All teams must dress a minimum of 12 players with the maximum being 19 (including 2 goalies). Affiliated players are accepted provided they are registered on the official roster.
-If an AP player is to participate in the playoff rounds, they must have played in at least one round robin game to be eligible.
-Any team found with ineligible players participating will be disqualified from the tournament.
  2) Games
-Teams must be prepared to start 15 min prior to their scheduled game times as games will start early if tournament is ahead of schedule.
-All games will be 10-15-15 stop time. There will be no floods after the 2nd period during Round Robin and quarter-final games. Teams will get a two minute break after the 2nd period. In the minor Bantam division, there will be a flood after the 2nd period in the Semi-final and Championship games only.
-In the event of over-time, a two minute break will occur prior to the start of the OT period
-Pre-game warm up will be 3 minutes after which the referee will blow the whistle to indicate the start of the game. Teams will then tap gloves at center ice and then line up immediately for face off. -All teams throughout the tournament will be allowed one 30 second time out per game
-During round robin play a five-goal differential at any time in the third period will result in running time. If the deficit is reduced to three goals, stop time will resume.
 
3) Round Robin and Play-off Formats
MINOR BANTAM
-Each team will play 4 round-robin games within their designated Division (Huron, Erie, Ontario or Superior).
-Teams will be awarded 2 points for a win and 1 point each for a tie and 0 for a loss in Round robin games.
-The top two teams from each division will advance to the quarter finals on Sunday morning and they will be seeded 1 through 8.  (1st vs 8th , 2nd vs 7th, 3rd vs 6th, 4th vs 5th). If two teams faced each other in the round robin, they will not play against each other again in the quarter finals, the seedings will be adjusted to avoid this if necessary.
MINOR PEEWEE
-Each team will play 3 round-robin games within their designated Division (Simcoe, Nipissing, St. Clair)
-Teams will be awarded 2 points for a win and 1 point each for a tie and 0 for a loss in Round robin games.
-After the 3rd Round Robin game, teams will be seeded 1-12. If two teams faced each other in the round robin, they will not play against each other again in the quarter finals, the seedings will be adjusted to avoid this if necessary.
- Teams 1-8 will play on the “A” side in the championship round.  Teams 9-12 will play in the consolation “B” round.
-The “A” Championship game will be with winner of each semi-final. Home team will be highest ranked team.
-Games ending in a tie after a quarter-final or semi-final game will result in a 5 minute stop time sudden-victory overtime period with 4 players on 4. Teams will not change ends.   In the Championship game there will be an overtime period of 10 minutes stop time. If still tied, a three player shootout will occur. Each team will select 3 different players to each shoot on the opposing goalie. If one team scores more goals than other team, they will be awarded with the win. The home team will shoot first, followed by visiting team until all three shooters have had a turn. If one team has scored sufficient goals and the other team cannot possibly equal this total, remaining shots are not required to be taken. If still tied after 3 shooters, a sudden victory shootout will occur. The home team will shoot first, followed by the visiting team, until one team has scored and the other has not. A player may not shoot twice unless all players on roster (exception being goalie) have taken a shot.
4) Tie Breaker Rules
-In the case of a tie between teams following round-robin play, the tie breaker system shall be as follows:
·       Head to Head winner in round-robin
·       Team with the most wins
·       Tie-breaking percentage: GF/(GF+GA). Note: When applying this formula the max goal differential in any game shall be no greater than 10
·       Least goals against
·       Most goals scored
·       Coin toss
In the case of any disputes the decision of the Tournament Committee will be final.
5) Awards
-Tournament Champions will be recognized on the Great Lakes Cup Trophy and have the opportunity to be photographed with the Cup. In addition all champion participants will receive an individual replica of the tournament cup to take home. A Championship trophy will be presented to the winning team to take home to their team trophy case as well.
-Tournament finalists will receive a medallion.
6) General Information
Insurance: The Great Lakes Cup Tournament or its Tournament Committee, volunteers, advertisers or others directly or indirectly involved in the tournament and tournament events will not be held responsible for injuries caused by or to any player, parent, coaching staff or spectator. Please ensure that all players are covered by insurance before participating in the Tournament.
Dressing Rooms:  Keys for the dressing rooms should be picked up in the tournament office. Car keys will be held in the office until dressing room key is returned. Only registered players will be allowed in the dressing rooms. Any player(s) suspended during the tournament must not enter the dressing room prior to the game(s) from which they are suspended. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in a further suspension. Dressing Rooms must be vacated 20 minutes after game.*Teams are responsible for ensuring their dressing rooms are locked and secure at all times.* The Great Lakes Cup is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged property at any of the Tournament function locations.
