Meurs and Canada's U18 Team Win Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in the Czech & Slovak Republics
Lakers Alumnus Garrett Meurs and Canada's U18 team won the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in the Czech and Slovak Republics yesterday with a tough 1-0 win over Team USA. This was the third year in a row and the sixth time in seven years that Canada has won this tournament.
Canada had one exhibition game prior to the tournament opening - a 3-2 overtime win over the Czechs that saw the Canadians rebound twice from one goal deficits.
The Canadians opened the tournament with a 6-3 win over the Swedes on Monday, followed that up with a 7-3 win over the Swiss on Tuesday, and completed the round robin with a 6-1 win over the Slovaks on Wednesday. Meurs picked up two assists in the win over the Slovaks. In Friday's semi-final game the Canadians defeated the Czechs 6-2, a game that saw Meurs score his first goal of the tournament.
Congratulations to Garrett and his U18 team-mates on keeping the Canadian winning streak alive.
The Canadians celebrate after winning the Tournament.
