The Colorado Avalanche again reached into the ranks of former Lakers players when they selected Garrett Meurs with their 5th round pick (123rd overall) in the recent 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Meurs joins Lakers alumnus
Ryan O'Reilly as recent Colorado draft picks.
Commenting for the Lucknow Sentinel, Meurs shared that "getting drafted to any team is an honour and to be selected is very exciting. Going into the draft I was very nervous as to what would happen and am happy that things went well. I'm looking forward to the next step now and hopefully someday playing for the Avalanche. I would like to thank family and friends for the support I have received to help make this dream a possibility."

2008-09
Meurs played with the Lakers from 2004-2009 before making the jump to the OHL where he has played for the Plymouth Whalers the past two seasons. This season he amassed 40 points (10 goals, 30 assists) in 68 games.
Congratulations to Garrett and hopefully he'll be back in "Lakers colours" playing with the Avs soon.
