1st Annual Lakers Golf Tournament is a Resounding Success
Submitted By cmetzger on Monday, August 22, 2011
The Huron Perth Lakers AAA Hockey Association celebrated their 15th Anniversary of offering premier hockey to the 24 communities we represent by hosting our inaugural Lakers Golf Tournament. The sun shone brightly through blue skies and manicured golf greens stretched as far as the eye could see, which was a big departure from the usual "arena scene" that the Lakers are associated with from August to April each year.

Sixty eight participants enjoyed a BBQ lunch and 18 holes of golf and were then eligible for a wide variety of excellent prizes. Some spouses arrived and a total of eighty guests were fed a delicious steak dinner and could partake in the silent auction which saw Blue Jays tickets, a Lakers Adirondack Chair, a Gordie Howe "Mr. Hockey" Jersey and autographed Justin Peters of the Carolina Hurricanes (a Laker alumni from 1996) memorabilia available to the highest bidder.

Former Lakers coach and radio personality, Scott Pettigrew, did an excellent job as the MC for the evening and because of his long standing involvement with the organization, could segway the past to the present. The Golf Committee was delighted to see an excellent cross-section of attendees including reps from the Alliance Office, OHL scouts, Laker alumni, current Lakers, coaching staff and parents.

No golfer won the $10,000 for the "hole in one", sponsored by Stockie Motors (although there was a ball that hit a tree that came awfully close) so we will all have to wait to 2012 to see if that can be done!

The 2012 Lakers Golf Tournament will take place on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at the Mitchell Golf & Country Club and will include a BBQ lunch, 18 holes of golf, a power cart and catered evening meal with lots of prizes to be won!

Save the Date and Plan to attend!

Teams are encouraged to select their Golf Committee representative now and contact the Committee Co-Chair, Helen Dowd @ [email protected].
