Lakers Alumus Liam Maaskant gets his first OHL Goal & It's a Doozy!
Huron-Perth Lakers alumnus Liam Maaskant scored his first OHL goal last Saturday and it couldn't have come at a better time.
The Erie Otters ended their eight-game losing streak in dramatic fashion as Maaskant scored the overtime winner to lead the Otters to a 4-3 win over the Kitchener Rangers last Saturday night in Erie.
The Rangers were off to a quick start scoring in the first two minutes and then doubling their lead about five minutes later. The Otters bounced back in the next shift to get on the scoreboard. Kitchener restored their two goal lead just seconds into the 2nd period. But again, the Otters bounced back in the next minute to cut the Rangers' lead to one. The Otters scored early in the third to tie the game and with no other scoring the teams were headed for overtime.
And it was in overtime that Maaskant got to shine. With just a couple minutes left in OT, Maaskant took a pass in the high slot and blasted a bomb past the blocker of the Kitchener netminder to give the team the win and score his first OHL goal. Congratulations, Liam!
