This December the HPL Major Bantam team joined together to donate their hard earned dollars to a good cause by sponsoring a family in need through the Stratford Salvation Army.
The Stratford Salvation Army supports over 700 families in need in Stratford and the surrounding areas during the holiday season. They provide financial assistance in terms of providing gifts so every family member has something to open on Christmas Day.
Our HPL team and families had the honour of supporting Family #129. The boys spent some down time last weekend shopping at Walmart fulfilling their 3 boys' wish list as well as getting a little something for their parents and a Walmart gift certificate. It was a great experience for all the team members, making each boys gift choices meaningful. Afterwards, the team and families enjoyed a potluck dinner at the Hertel's.
The team was proud to present their gifts to Jason Sabourin, Pastor/Executive Director on Thursday night's practice in Milverton. Every player introduced themselves to Jason along with a handshake. They were greatly thanked for their selfless acts of kindness and how they truly have helped by putting smiles on this families faces this holiday season. Jason stressed to the boys that not to let anyone tell them that they cannot change the world with one good deed because they can!
A big Thank-You to Carol and Shawn Hertel for organizing and hosting the events associated with this initiative! Thanks also to Shannon and Scott Johnson, John Stockie and Sherri Butchart for assisting with the carpooling and the shopping trip!
Let's hope we can make this a yearly team tradition!
