Road Trip Earns Minor PeeWees 3 of 4 points.
The ever exciting Windsor Loop saw the 99 Lakers battle Sun County Panthers and the Windsor Jr. Spitfires over the weekend picking up 3 points along the way.
Lakers vs Sun County
The Lakers were on the board first late in the first period thanks to a commitment by all the players to come strong and stay strong. Late in the 2nd while finishing up a solid PK the boys found themselves setting up for a PP and capitalized on it. Going into the 3rd period Sun County picked up the momentum and tied the game up around the 6 minute mark. Unfortunately there were several opportunities for the Lakers to place the puck in the back of the net but an outstanding Sun County tender shut out each attempt. The team would have to settle for a tie game and 1 point.
Lakers vs Windsor
After a fun night, good sleep and early morning team breakfast at the ever so accommodating StoneCroft Inn, the boys were ready for the Jr. Spitfires at the classic Windsor Arena. The boys fell early in the first by a quick Windsor wrister that found the Laker net shortly after the puck was dropped. Without hesitation the Lakers continued their game and quickly tied it up 2 minutes later. Again the boys dominated the action deep in Windsor territory for much of the game notching 2 more goals by the middle of the 3rd period. Up 3 -1 and playing with confidence trying to close out the game the puck was uncharacteristically deep in our zone when the Spits seized two defensive zone breakdowns in the dying minutes and tied the game. With 2:13 on the clock and fresh legs waiting for the puck to drop at centre ice the Lakers responded with a go ahead goal 8 seconds after Windsor tied it up. Two minutes later we had our first league win, 2 more points and a long ride home.
The Lakers Team Staff and players would like to thank the StoneCroft Inn and Gilligan’s Restaurant for taking good care of us over the weekend.
