The Major Atoms would continue their winning ways on the road on Sunday against the 99ers. Despite Brantford scoring the first (questionable) goal, the boys kept up the intensity and scoring chances throughout the game. The Lakers pressured the puck, had a good power play, used the point, scored some goals, took the lead and scored the empty netter to seal the 4-2 win.

The Major Atoms hosted the Cambridge Hawks in Stratford on Saturday. The Lakers got off to a rough start with the Hawks winning the opening faceoff and scored 9 seconds into the game. The Hawks ‘ were all over the Lakers from the beginning and would score two more before the Lakers offense found the back of the net. Two quick goals at the end of the second gave the boys momentum and a third goal to tie the game. Cambridge would respond with two more goals. The Hawks took advantage of their chances and Major Atoms didn’t get the bounces. It was a tough 5-3 loss for the Lakers.

Sarnia Sting 3 Huron Perth Lakers 5

The Major Atoms travelled to Sarnia for their match against the Sting. The Lakers were able to utilize hard work by dominating this match inside the Hawks’ blueline. The boys had many scoring opportunities but it would be a breakaway, a backhanded snipe and a hat trick would round out the Laker scoring. Unfortunately, the Sting took advantage of our penalty trouble and would score 3 PP goals. Despite some last-minute desperation attempts by the Sting, the Lakers managed to hold tight to the lead and emerge with the 5-3 win at the final buzzer.

The Lakers goalies continue to be outstanding between the pipes, coming up with crucial saves and keeping the Major Atoms in the game.

These were two impressive weekends for the Lakers that saw a lot of hustle, good puck movement and team play. The boys competed very well with each member of the team contributing to two successful weekends.

Go Lakers Go!!
