It is with heavy hearts that we inform our Huron Perth Lakers family of the tragic passing of Carter Schoonderwoerd.
A 19-year-old from Mitchell, Ont., Carter joined the Lakers in his Bantam year in 2016-17. The following year he played for the U16 program where he was named team captain. He was drafted by the Peterborough Petes in the 2018 OHL draft. His next 3 seasons were spent with the St. Mary’s Lincolns and Stratford Warriors Jr. B programs.
Carter was an excellent teammate. He joked that he had a competitive advantage because of his Mom Heather’s pregame pasta. His father Joe could always be found along the glass in a corner enjoying the team play.
We are hoping to see teammates from all the teams that played a role in Carter’s life wearing jerseys and sticks, lining the laneway following his private funeral so that when the family returns, they are welcomed home to the shack with members of Carter’s hockey family, showing their support.
Location: Schoonderwoerd Family Shack (Behind McCann Cement Plant) 6471 Perth Line 34, Mitchell, ON, N0K1N0
Time: Players & staff are asked to be at the property in jerseys (with sticks) between 12:00 pm -12:15 pm.
After the “welcome home,” players are welcome to join the family for up to an hour of fellowship, understanding that they are doing their best to adhere to social distancing and limited crowds.
Krista McCann will help coordinate all those in attendance. For more information, Krista can be reached at 226-236-7366.
Rest Easy Carter!
