Lakers hold another successful year-end Annual Banquet
Submitted By cmetzger on Sunday, April 20, 2008
The Huron-Perth Lakers celebrated another successful season of Lakers hockey at our Annual Banquet held April 11th in Brussels.

The Masters of Ceremony for the evening was Steve Sabourin of CKNX Radio who made sure that activities moved along smartly and in order.

The evening began with a delicious BBQ beef on a bun meal that was enjoyed by all and capped off by two large cakes decorated with the Lakers logo.

The guest speaker was Lakers alumni Ryan “Snook” O’Reilly. Ryan was selected first overall last year by the Erie Otters in the OHL selection draft and captained this year’s Under 17 Team Ontario (champions at the Under 17 World Championship held in London). Ryan spoke on the importance of respect and its applicability for hockey players and their development.

One of the highlights of the evening was the announcement of Dave Dykxhoorn as the first recipient of the John O’Keefe Award for outstanding voluntary service to the Huron-Perth Lakers. To read the full article on this award, please click here.

Each Lakers team was recognized for their hard work, dedication, and success this past season. The Minor Bantam team received additional recognition as they received their team banner and individual plaques for successfully capturing the title of East Division Regular Season Champions.

Following all the presentations and celebrations, the evening concluded with the various Lakers players having the opportunity to meet and talk with Ryan O’Reilly.

A special thanks to the Lakers Brand Development Committee (Julie McConnell, Candace Chaffe, Richard Gethke, and Pam Gethke) for all their hard work in organizing such a successful banquet.
