Lakers Alumni Cal O'Reilly Recalled to Predators
The Nashville Predators announced yesterday that the club has recalled forward Cal O'Reilly under emergency conditions from the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.
Cal is a Lakers alumni having played his AAA hockey with the Lakers before moving to Jr. B with the St. Marys Lincolns and the OHL with the Windsor Spitfires.
This is the second NHL recall for Cal, Nashville’s fourth choice, 150th overall (fifth round), in the 2005 Entry Draft.
Cal played last night in the Predators 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks and finished +1 with 14 minutes of ice time. Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne commenting after the game on missing their top two centers said "It is so great for our younger guys like Cal O’Reilly tonight, and other guys that are just stepping up. It’s always tough to lose those kind of players, we miss them of course, but at the same time our guys are doing a great job filling those holes."
Cal played his first two career NHL games on February 28 and March 3, posting an assist in his NHL debut, an 8-0 victory vs. Detroit. The 6'-0", 187-pound center currently ranks second in the AHL in assists (56) and ninth in points (69). Cal was one of three Admirals to play in the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic on Jan. 26. Last season, in 80 games, he ranked third in AHL assists (63) and fifth in points (79).
Best of luck Cal from the Lakers as your pro hockey career progresses.
