Four Lakers Drafted to OHL: Garrett Meurs, Mac Nichol, Mitchell McIntosh, & Brad McClure
The Huron-Perth Lakers would like to congratulate four of our own, Garrett Meurs, Mac Nichol, Mitchell McIntosh, & Brad McClure, on their selection today in the Ontario Hockey League's Priority Selection (draft). Meurs was selected by the Plymouth Whalers in the first round, Nichol by the Guelph Storm in the 6th round, McIntosh by the Erie Otters in the 13th round, and McClure by the Owen Sound Attack in the 14th round.
||Garrett went 13th overall and was the Whalers' first pick.
The OHL's scouting report describes Garrett as "a highly skilled, offensive minded player that has a ton of upside and potential. He has some moments where he can take over a game and dominate. He is a deceptive skater and once he gets the puck it is as if his skating is transformed. He shows speed and quickness, and an exceptional burst off the mark. When you combine that with his excellent puck handling ability you have a player that is very dangerous offensively."
Garrett has played five years with the Lakers and led the Minor Midgets last season with 52 goals, 43 assists and a +18 plus/minus rating.
||Mac went 104th overall in the OHL draft and was the Storm's 5th pick.
Mac has played five years with the Lakers. As Captain of last season's Minor Midget team he led the team's defensive corps with 39 points (5 goals and 34 assists).
In addition to his AAA Lakers experience, Mac is also looking to build on his Jr. B experience as he played 5 games this past season with the Listowel Cyclones as an affiliated player. The Cyclones went 4-1 with Nichol in the line-up.
||Mitchell went 250th overall in the OHL draft and was the Otters' 15th pick.
Mitchell has played four years with the Lakers. This past season he was an Assistant Captain with the Minor Midgets and tallied 40 points (19 goals and 21 assists).
||Brad went 269th overall in the OHL draft and was the Attack's 15th pick.
Brad has played three years with the Lakers. This past season as a member of the Lakers' Minor Midget team he racked up 71 points (35 goals and 36 assists) along with a +13 plus/minus rating.
Congratuations Garrett, Mac, Mitchell, & Brad! The Lakers wish you all continued success as your hockey career continues.
