Seven Lakers Drafted in 2010 OHL Priority Selection
In what may very well be a record for the Lakers, there were seven Lakers drafted in the 2010 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection on Saturday.
Jake Ringuette
|
Selected 12th in the 2nd round (33rd overall) by the Saginaw Spirit was defenceman Jacob Ringuette. The OHL's scouting report describes Ringuette as follows: "Ringuette is a very mobile, high risk/high reward styled defender who likes to get involved and is very active in the offensive side of the game. He possesses very good feet, displaying excellent overall mobility, a smooth stride, speed, quickness and the ability to cover a lot of geography while taking away time and space efficiently. He uses his speed and quickness when playing away from the puck, and he keeps his stick very active in attempting to take away shooting and passing lanes. He also shows a willingness to take the body and finish his checks." Ringuette was the first ALLIANCE player selected in this year's draft.
This was Ringuette's second honour in as many weeks as he has also advanced from ALLIANCE Hockey's U17 Camp to the Provincial U17 Camp being held July 6-10, 2010 in Oshawa.

Ray Huether

The Saginaw Spirit grabbed another Laker, Ray Huether, for their 5th round pick. Ray was selected 3rd in the 5th round (84th overall). In the lead-up to the Draft, the OHL had this to say about Ray: "Huether is a productive forward that goes about his business in a quiet but very effective manner. He consistently puts up points and has a tremendous ability to finish around the net. Huether sees the whole ice well and creates offensive opportunities for his team. 'The more you see Ray play the more you appreciate all the little things he does well,' Kitamura said. 'He reads the play well and always has his head up, looking for passing lanes. He has the look of a player that sees the game at a different speed."
