Three Lakers to Play in OHL Gold Cup!

The OHL Gold Cup is an annual event created to feature Ontario’s top Under-16 talent in an eight team tournament format.  This year’s event is being hosted by ALLIANCE Hockey and is being played in Kitchener from May 9 – 12, 2013.

The event will act as an evaluation and selection process for Team Ontario as the top 68 players from the tournament will attend the Under-17 Team Ontario camp.  From the camp, the Team Ontario staff will select 22 players to represent Ontario in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge to be held in December, 2013.

The Huron-Perth Lakers would like to recognize and congratulate Jamie Huber (Goderich), Ted Nichol (Listowel) and Cullen Mercer (Exeter) on being selected to play for Team ALLIANCE.  All three players had exceptional seasons for the Laker Minor Midgets in 2012-2013.

Current Laker Minor Midget Head Coach Dave Schlitt was selected to be the Head Coach of Team ALLIANCE.

Team ALLIANCE’s round-robin game schedule is as follows:

Thursday May 9                      vs. OMHA 2               6:00

Friday May 10                        vs. NOHA                   12:00

Friday May 10                        vs. GTHL 2                 9:00

Play-off round games are scheduled on Saturday May 11 and Sunday May 12.

All tournament games are being played at Kitchener’s Sportsworld Arena.
